"Dip the apple in the brew. Let the Sleeping Death seep through. Look! On the skin! The symbol of what lies within. Now, turn red, to tempt Snow White, to make her hunger for a bite. When she breaks the tender peel, to taste the apple in my hand, her breath will still, her blood congeal, then I'll be fairest in the land!"

Eris, the Greek goddess of strife and discord, had been subbed from the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. She, therefore, tossed a golden apple in the midst of the feast of the gods as a prize of beauty, thus sparking a dispute among Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite that eventually led to the Trojan War.

"My paintings are visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, 'What does that mean?'. It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable.” - Rene Magritte
